Newspaper Bin Liners

Over the last couple of weeks we have been contributing towards our local community and our local community with - Newspaper Bin Liners.

In Room 2 we collect the food scraps from all the classes in the school, for the school worm farm and compost.  The bin we collect the scraps in gets pretty smelly, and with the drought we don't want to use too much water washing out the bin. On top of that, each class was using  plastic supermarket bags to line their 'Red Bins' - not very environmentally friendly.

Then we came across Bella, a 6 year old in Ottawa, Canada.  We figured, if she cold make these bins, then we would give it a go!

Mrs Bradshaw collected the left over newspapers from the Four Square on Maxwell's Line, so we have been busy making trying to make enough for all the classes in the school - 22...each day!! It has been a pretty big job.

On Tuesday we challenged the students from Ngata House, during our Ngata House assembly to see how fast they could make them.  They did well, Nathanial from our class was the winner - he has had quite a bit of practice!

Not only are we recycling newspapers, the worms like a bit of newspaper, the carbon is good for the compost....and the newspaper soaks up the fermenting juices, reducing the odours and the flies in our classroom!

Bio Poems and Writing Blog

Today we learned how to add a post to a blog.  This is going to come in handy when we produce outstanding written work that we want to share with our readers.

To get us started we wrote a Bio Poem and added a photo of ourselves.  If you would like to get to know us a little better or you want to read our published writing over the year, then visit 'The Power of Two' Writing.  We would love to read any positive comments you have to make about our Bio Poems.
