Term 3 Week 9 Homework...NO HOMEWORK

No official homework this week.

Just do your best to remember the elements of the Fish Philosophy as we work through the final week of the term and get ready for Production.

Be present - think about how you interact with all people
Choose your Attitude - we are all tired, this is when we need to think about how we react/respond to this situation.
Make Their Day - how will you make someone's day?  All words and actions towards others need to be positive.
Play - let's make the most of this time preparing for Production and have fun with it!

Tips for Writing a Great Blog Comment

Each day after lunch during silent reading time, half of the class is busy duo-blogging with 3dom. When we leave comments on other's blogs we use the duo-blogging rubric that we put together as a class.  Other classes all over the world do something similar. Here is a video from Ms Yollis' class with some tips on writing a quality comment.

Term 3 Week 8 Homework

This week's homework is very similar to last week's.

Would you like to like to go to a Turbos game with the class and their families? Upload  to Edmodo a chant, video, poster or poem about the Turbos. We will put them forward for the 'Junior Bucketheads' competition

REMEMBER you must have all 'Must Do's signed off for your homework to be considered completed. FYI - homework books are looking very organised and up-to-date by almost everyone in Room 2. Keep up the great work!

Due next Monday - 23rd September.

Maths at Home

If you are wanting to help your child with their learning in maths, particularly as the way maths is now taught and learned has changed since we were at school, then this website may help you.

You can find a video describing how you can support maths learning, suggestions on how to use maths in everyday experiences, number knowledge activities (these line up with the Basic Facts Ladder - that your child practices for homework), ideas for making a collection of items to explore maths concepts, as well as links to other parts of the NZMaths website that maybe of interest to you.

I would love to hear your feedback about what you found useful and what could be improved upon, perhaps via a blog comment.

Parent Teacher Student Conferences - THIS WEEK

It's is great to see some parents have booked in for Parent Teacher Student conferences this week. There are still a few gaps to be filled.

As mentioned in the newsletters this term you can book your own conference time on the school interviews website and enter the code: 95E76

If you do not have internet access,
you can contact the school office and they will book a time for you.

Due to conferences we will have a half day on Tuesday and students are able to wear mufti.

Narrative writing - 20 Character Facts

In Room 2 we are busy writing narratives.  To get us started we created a WANTED poster for the main character of our narrative. The idea was to write 20 character facts, this will then help us with the next step of building a sequence of events. Here are some examples:

Fractions - how many ways can we show 3/4?

This morning Miss Peters and Mrs Bradshaw were team teaching Fractions. Before we started learning about - using patterns to find fractions of shapes and sets or converting a fraction to any equivalent fraction we had 5 minutes to write down all the different ways we could show 3/4.

Here is a sample of what we came up with:

Through doing this 'hotspot' we found out that we have a few experts in this class - some were experts in equivalent fractions, others were already experts in using decimals, some used discrete data, others used continuous.

Last week we did something similar using Padlet:

How many ways can you show 4/5? Write them down in our comments box below.

Term 3 Week 6 Homework

This week's homework is very similar to last week's, but there are one or two differences. Do you talk
about the Fish Philosophy at home with your family?  If you do this week, you can have a 'Can Do' signed off. I wonder if anyone will complete the whole sheet this week?  There are a few people who got close last week.  REMEMBER you must have all 'Must Do's signed off for your homework to be considered completed. FYI - homework books are looking very organised and up-to-date by almost everyone in Room 2. Keep up the great work!
Due next Monday - 9th September.

Junior Bucket Heads

Would you like to be a part of the Junior Buckethead experience

All you need to do is tell Property Brokers the reason why our class deserves to win tickets. Other classes have made videos, collages, poems, songs, and chants, so we need to get creative.

Any reason will do with the winners being selected the week before each game. For further information and prize details visit the Property Brokers website.
