Feel Inside - Flight of the Concords... in sign language

Last week Tash and Paige asked Mr Codyre if they could invite Ally along to assembly to talk about Sign Language.  On Friday she popped in and taught us all how to Sign to the song - Feel Inside, by Flight of the Concords. We had so much fun, although it was pretty tricky, with a few more tries we might get better at it.

Here are the signs to the chorus and the video:

Play - is it part of the 'Fun Theory'?

On Friday we used Edvard De Bono's Thinking Hats to think about 'The Fish Philosophy' element of 'Play'. As a class we discussed the information (white hat) provided about Play.  Then in our teams we were each given a different coloured hat, to

Play encourages creativity and fun through:

Curiosity. Play is the spirit that drives the curious mind. It unleashes our imagination.

Freedom to innovate.  It’s fun trying to find a better or new way when you aren't worried about being criticized, ridiculed or punished. Every experience is a learning opportunity. Mistakes are acknowledged and valued as a way to learn.

Freedom to be you. Play is being secure to be yourself and engage others.

Trust and the playing field. When there is mutual agreement about the boundaries of the “playing field” everyone feels more confident to create.
Environment. How playful and colourful in the physical and emotional space in which you work? Does if feel safe? Does it promote creativity and trust?

Here are some of the ideas we had about Play in Room 2:

Can 'Play' be used in real life? Watch this video about speed cameras, then you can decide.

Congratulations to Kane, for getting into the Ross Int SuperSport Hockey

Congratulations, to Kane Hobbs for being selected into the Ross Intermediate SuperSport Hockey team.  Kane will be representing Ross Intermediate against the other Intermediates in the Manawatu Area in week 4.  We wish him all the best.
Please note: This photo isn't actually of Kane, it is from google images, but it made me think of Kane, because I can imagine him being this determined to hit the ball. However, this photo is:

IT skills and KAPOW Inquiry

At the moment we are gearing up for our Inquiry prompt - 'The Next Big Thing'.

For 'The Next Big Thing' we need to have really good inquiry skills, and be able to research and build on our ideas.  At Ross we use the KAPOW Inquiry model to help us with our research and questioning skills (along with other things).

So, before we get started on 'The Next Big Thing', we are polishing up on KAPOW by researching and learning different IT skills.

There are quite a few IT skills we KNOW about already, like, logging in to our email, exporting a document to pdf, signing in to Edmodo...

Today, we ACQUIRED information that showed us how to create an avatar, we then built on that knowledge by learning how to upload it to Edmodo. You can watch the youtube clip that we found, if you would like to do the same.

What do you think of Serena and Jude's avatar's?

Tomorrow, we are going to PROCESS that information...then look at the OPTIONS of how we can present it....I wonder WHAT'S NEXT? for the Inquiring minds of Room 2?

Logo Competition

The Next Big Thing is all about designing and developing a product or service that you think the world now needs. For example: designing and developing a new bin liner for our food scraps bins. Think about this as you design the logo.

The logo will represent our Inquiry unit and the competition for The Next Big Thing which is held at the end of the term.

Check out the details below...
